Firefighters have extinguished a fire at a nuclear power station.
Ten appliances were called to a blaze at Hartlepool Power Station after being alerted to what the fire service described as a "small fire".
Cleveland Police said several emergency procedures were activated as smoke was seen billowing from the scene.
A spokesman for Cleveland Police said: "There have been no injuries as a result of the blaze.
"During incidents such as this there are several procedures that take place including the venting of steam generators.
"This particular process causes noise, which residents of nearby areas such as Seaton Carew may hear.
"There is smoke billowing as a result of the fire, but it is currently heading in a direction that does not cause any implications for members of the public."
Police and Fire have remained at the scene as a precautionary measure, a spokesman said.
Police said there were no off-site implications. The fire started while a turbine was being reactivated.
Hartlepool Power Station is a 1.3Gigawatt nuclear power generating station which provides about 2% of Britain's peak electricity requirement - enough for 1.5million homes.
It is owned and operated by EDF Energy. The site was originally expected to shut down in 2009 but permission was given by the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate for an extension to keep it open until 2014.
A further extension followed so it will now close in 2019.
It opened in 1985 and was Britain's first nuclear power station to be built near a major urban area. It is 2.5miles south of Hartlepool on the Tees river.
