Kaduna:19 Persons Killed By Gunmen In Easter Day Attack

SAN FRANCISCO, April 01, (THEWILL) – Nineteen persons were killed and many others injured, Sunday, in Afaka village in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State when gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen stormed the village.

Afaka is a border village between Kaduna and Plateau States.

The gunmen, numbering about 30, according to a resident, invaded the village in the early hours of the day, shooting sporadically into houses before the villagers, with support of a neighbouring community, were able to repel the attack.

The Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, DSP Aminu Lawan, who confirmed the attack, said the gunmen took the villagers by surprise and started shooting at the people, killing 19 persons and injuring several others in the process.

Maintaining that the identities of the gunmen are yet to be known, he disclosed that the police have commenced investigation into the attack.

He also disclosed that more armed policemen and soldiers had been deployed to the area to keep the peace.
