Police have arrested a fugitive who escaped to Tanzania last year after stealing money and crucial documents from a company he was working for in Kenya.
Mr Egaala Murali Sridhar, the former Managing Director of Leatherlife (EPZ) Ltd, was arrested on Wednesday in Loitoktok town, Kajiado county.
Police say hestole millions from the company before escaping to Tanzania.
Weeks after his escape, he reportedly invited the plant's manager Devanand Bhardoj, who also sneaked out of the country after stealing from the company.
According to company's officials, the former Managing Director had left for India late last year saying that he was going to get married. He however sent his resignation letter days later after his departure.
When he was later requested to return for an audit to be conducted, he never came back.
The audit revealed that besides the millions of shillings missing, the suspect had also disappeared with marketing files, plant production process manuals and staff information.
The director of the company Ranjit Sokhi on Wednesday described the theft as a well thought and criminally executed plan to destroy the company.
Loitoktok OCPD Herbert Khaemba said that they were acting on a warrant of arrest that had been issued by Mavoko Law Courts.
“We arrested him when he was spotted at the border trying to sneak back into the country,” said Mr Khaemba.
Athi River CID boss Aggrey Okoth had written to the Interpol to seek assistance from police services in the region to track the two suspects.
Mr Sridhar is expected to appear in court on Thursday
