Ministry of Education officials have denied reports that they have banned the live broadcast of the controversial play 'Shackles of Doom' by Butere Girls High School.
The play by Butere Girls High School is scheduled to be performed on Sunday 4.30pm at the Kenya National Schools and Colleges Drama Festival in Mombasa's Aga Khan High School.
Director of Quality Assurance and Standards in the Ministry of Education Mohamed Mwinyipembe and the event's Executive Secretary Sirengo Khaemba told Daily Nation on Sunday that "we cannot and we have not banned any coverage of the festival in any form".
Mr Mwinyipembe, who is also the Patron of the Kenya National Drama festivals said: "We need to communicate the festival's messages to the Kenyan public and we need the media to capture and spread the messages at the ongoing national drama festival."
Mr Mwinyipembe and Mr Sirengo were speaking on Sunday when Mary Hills girls were on stage with their dance at the Aga Khan High School.
