Students demonstrate.
KAMPALA - Police Friday blocked Kyambogo University student’s demonstration as it entered day two.
The public university's students
on Thursday went on strike protesting being blacklisted by the
university administration for failure to pay tuition last academic year.
Management alleges that the
students forged documents such as receipts and examination cards to
illegally sit exams. The students are supposed to clear the tuition
before the end of April.
A total of 3,000 students from
the faculty of Arts and Social science have been blacklisted and their
names pinned on the notice board.
Kampala Police boss, Andrew
Felix Kaweesi, during a meeting with the administration and students
advised the administration to scrutinize the list before displaying it.
“The problem is with the administration. How can you come up with the list before scrutinizing it," said the police boss.
The university administration however, acknowledged that the list had loopholes and promised to withdraw it.
Jinja Road Police DPC, Wesley
Nganizi, calmed the students and asked them to reach an amicable
settlement with the administration.
