Juba, 12-04-2013 (Gurtong) - The security has been beefed by a combination of the regular forces led by the presidential guards.

The Ministry-Airport road (about four Kilometres) has been cordoned off and offices around the airport have closed for security reasons. The streets leading to the airport have been thoroughly cleaned to receive president Bashir.

President Bashir was received by the Sudanese delegation led by his host President Salva Kiir. The two presidents smiled and hugged each other.
The two national anthems of Sudan and South Sudan were sung at the Airport shortly after Bashir was welcomed.

Shortly before Bashir’s arrival, Sudanese defense and Interior Ministers landed at Juba Airport.

On reception, Bashir and Kiir headed to J-One and will address the press thereafter.   Ministers of Interior, Security, Petroleum and Commerce and business delegations from both sides will also be meeting with at the sidelines of the presidents’ meeting.

According to the South Sudanese Government Spokesperson Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin, the two presidents’ meeting is aimed at expediting the implementation of the September 2012 Cooperation Agreements.

The agreements have been on the table but implementation has been rocky and President Bashir’s visit according to Dr. Marial is expected to push for swift implementation of the agreements.

Independence left key issues unresolved between the impoverished neighbours, including how much the South should pay for shipping its oil through Sudanese pipelines for export.

South Sudan stopped all of its crude production early last year, cutting off most of its revenue after accusing Khartoum of theft.
