Gossip Kampala Is Set For 2014 FestivalDrive Hot News

The stage is set for East Africa’s biggest street party to happen. The much anticipated Kampala City Festival will take place in the heart of the city starting at 9:00am Sunday.

The festival is expected to attract between 500,000-1 million people up from 300,000 people last year.

Over 1 million people are expected to attend this year’s fete which is attracted over shs800 million in sponsorship deals from corporate companies including; Uganda Breweries Limited through its flagship beer Bell Lager, Roofings, Movit, Ruparelia Group and others. Bell Lager alone sponsored the event to the tune of shs150 million to make it bigger and better than the first two.

The festival will have six stages including; the Main Stage at the Railway Grounds –which will have the BELL Hour –the much anticipated time of the festival, the children’s park at Constitutional Square, the Mataali stage (Serena gardens), the Christian stage (Sheraton gardens), MTN stage, Airtel Stage, Coca Cola Stage and Total stage.

On Friday, Robert Kalumba the deputy spokesman KCCA, announced free train services by Rift Vallye Railways for participants who are coming to the Kampala City Festival. The train will start transporting people at 8:00am from Namanve to Kampala. The morning will have to trips. The second trip will be at 10:00am. For departures from Kampala, there will be evening trips at 3:00pm and 4:00pm. The late night departure from Kampala trip will be at 11:00PM.

“KCCA would also like to inform the party-goers that the start-up venue for the procession of the floats has been moved from Kololo Airstrip to Buganda Road,” he echoed. 

Uganda’s top musicians and comedians lined up to perform at the Festival to give revelers a happy time. Those who have been confirmed by the Executive Director KCCA Jennifer Musisi include; Jose Chameleon, Sheebah and Pallaso, Irene Ntale, Haruna Mubiru, Cinderella Sanyu (Cindy), and Mathali dance troupe by Suleiman Muwangala. Comedians include; Dolibondo, Kapale, and Patrick Idiringi a.k.a Salvado.

For the first time since Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) took over the management of Uganda’s capital city from Kampala City Council, small and medium scale retailers will be allowed to do business on the streets.

According to Jennifer Musisi the KCCA Executive Director, small and medium scale retailers will be allowed to sell food stuff and general merchandise during the Kampala City Festival which will take place on October 5, 2014.

“Last year there was more food demand than supply. Food, soda and beer run out because we didn’t have a good arrangement,” Ms Musisi said at a press briefing in Kampala recently.

Themed For The Love Of Kampala, the Kampala City Festival will have over 200 activities that showcase business, fashion, art and culture, entertainment, technology and industry.
