Movement of Pigs, Pork Sale Banned,Drive Hot News

Arua district veterinary department has imposed quarantine against the movement and sale pig products.
This follows the outbreak of the highly contagious African swine fever in some parts of the district where an estimated 400 pigs have been killed since the outbreak of the disease two months ago.
African swine fever (ASF) is a highly contagious hemorrhagic disease of pigs and warthogs with a mortality rate as high as 100%. The virus is characterized by high fever, loss of appetite, hemorrhages in the skin and internal organs.
Dr. Gordon Toa, the district veterinary officer says the disease has been confirmed in the Sub Counties of Manibe in Ayivu County and Katrini in Terego County. The quarantine was imposed to avoid further spread of the disease to other areas, he adds.
