Gulu University gets new chancellor.Drive Hot News


 Minister for Education Jessica Alupo decorates the new Gulu University Chancellor, Prof Frederick Kayanja, last Friday.


Gulu. The former Vice Chancellor of Mbarara University of Sciences and Technology, Prof Frederick Kayanja, has been appointed Chancellor of Gulu University.
Prof Kayanja was sworn in by the Minister for Education and Sports, Ms Jessica Alupo, at the main campus in Gulu Town last Friday.
The university has been operating without a chancellor for a year after its pioneer, Prof Martin Aliker’s two terms in office expired in 2013.
Ms Alupo, who represented President Museveni, congratulated Prof Kayanja, who she described as a good performer.
“We want to honour Prof Kayanja for his good deeds and dedicated work at Mbarara University of Sciences and Technology,” Ms Alupo said. “We also want to acknowledge his tireless efforts as a founder member of the National Council for Higher Education where he played a pivotal role in regulating standards for quality education in the country,” she added.
The minister said she was confident that Prof Kayanja together with University Council and the Vice Chancellor will steer the institution to greater heights.
Ms Alupo said when a new salary scale for teachers is approved, professors at public universities will earn Shs15 million per month.

Prof Kayanja lauded Mr Museveni for his continuous trust of appointing him to serve in various capacities in the higher education sub-sector. He promised to work with the management team of the university to lobby for international support.
