Babati to get state of the art airport

Babati. A modern airport to serve Manyara Region, will be constructed near Magugu Township, some 20 kilometres north of the regional headquarters, Babati; it was disclosed here last week.
The regional commissioner, Mr Elason Mbwilo, said a feasibility study for the project had been finalised and that the lowland area has been selected as an ideal site for the new facility.
“You should prepare yourself for a big project in this area,” he said when addressing residents of the area during which he urged them to work hard to meet the challenges that will come with the facility.
He called on them to invest in productive activities because the opening of the airport would increase demand for their farm produce, accommodation facilities, restaurants, shopping outlets and markets.
The RC, however, could not explain where exactly the new airport would be constructed in the area which is on the southern shores of Lake Manyara and is famous for rice and cotton production.
The Magugu area now registering a fast population increase, is also close to Kiru commercial farms.
Tourist attractions  in Manyara Region likely to benefit from the planned facility include, Tarangire and Lake Manyara national parks, Burunge Wildlife Management Area and hot springs in the Great Rift Valley bed.
