Congolese Commander Col. Mamadou Ndala Moustafa was declared
dead hours after he was shot dead in an ambush 9km off Beni. 5 of his
escorts are reportedly injured.
Initial reports indicated that Col. Mamadou Ndala was wounded in an
ambush by Ugandan ADF-NALU rebels. He later died at a hospital in Beni,
North Kivu pronvince.
Col. Mamadou M’Dala Moustafa was the commander of the Congolese army
in eastern Congo and was in charge of operations against the Ugandan
rebels. The attack took place in North Kivu located in the eastern
Democratic Republic of Congo.
“We are very sad to announce the death of Colonel Mamadou ‘n’ Dala
Mustafa, his convoy was ambushed on the way to the airport from Beni, he
died from wounds sustained in the attack, colonel Mamadou died
defending his country, he is a hero, known for his bravery and
leadership” a site ‘Forces Armées de la République Démocratique du Congo
(FARDC) posted on their official Facebook page.
Colonel Mamadou N’Dala Moustafa has been the Commander of the FARDC
brigade working with the UN Intervention Brigade set up by the United
Nations Security Council to fight against the M23 Congolese rebels.
He was in charge of the protection of the North-Kivu provincial capital Goma and government facilities in the area.
In a recent interview, Colonel Mamadou N’Dala Moustafa said that his
priority is the protection of the Congolese civilians and institutions,
but that ultimately, he is ready to fight a war against the M23
Congolese Rebels and to bring the war to where it began.
