Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni has been nominated for the Kim IL Sung prize by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea for his outstanding contribution to Uganda’s, Africa and world development.
This was revealed on Friday during a meeting between Uganda’s Prime Minister, Ruhakana Rugunda and a delegation from the East Asian nation. Rugunda urged continuation of cooperation between the two nations.
“I would like the cooperation between the two countries to continue flourishing,” Rugunda said.
The North Korean delegation was led by Professor Ri Song Chol and comprised of leaders from the Korean Assoc of Social Scientists.
KIM IL SUNG AWARD
Since the creation of this order in 1972 it has been the highest order or award of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. The order draws inspiration from the Order of Lenin of the Soviet Union and other communist nation’s “Cult” awards, such as the Orders of Karl Marx, Georgi Dimitrov, and Sukhebaatar.
The order ribbon is golden with a gold star at its centre, and the order medal has been revised several times, the latest on June 20, 2012, by the Presidum of the Supreme People’s Assembly.
The meeting was attended by Senior Presidential Advisor, Kirunda Kivejinja and Asuman Kiyinji, State Minister for Foreign Affairs (Regional).
Kiyinji said that the award will be presented to President Museveni next April if he accepts.
Uganda enjoys warm relations with North Korea. Last year, North Korean officials visiting Uganda signed deals to provide police training, security hardware such as tear gas and even housing construction.
